The Wakefield Talking Newspaper is a voluntary organisation which records news and information from the ‘Wakefield Express‘ for listeners who are registered as visually-impaired or blind. Our weekly editions usually also include notes about local events that will be of interest to our listeners. Occasionally we can also include additional items such as contributions from local people and groups, and recordings of local meetings. Our newspaper is free to our members. We distribute our recordings in four ways – online via this website; through a smartphone app; through the British Wireless for the Blind’s Bumblebee and Sonata players; and by the post on USB Memory sticks. In addition to our standard news items, the USB stick version also includes every week audio copies of three national magazines such as Peoples Friend, BBC History, Good Housekeeping, Readers Digest and National Geographic. The Online, Phone App and BWBF device versions of WTN last approximately eighty minutes each week. The USB version usually lasts about four hours. If you are interested in receiving our recordings, or know someone who you think may benefit from receiving them, please contact us.
